Remembering Debbie Corkindale
August 24th, 1951 – June 6, 2018
ASC President 1995 – 1997

Debbie joined the ASC in February of 1984 and as the good Virgo she was, probably started helping right away. She served on our board for many years, both before and after her two seasons as President 1995 – 1997. Debbie’s career as a computer consultant came to the aide of the ASC when she created and maintained our websites and handled a slew of technical details for us.

In 2002, Debbie was a founding member of Alphee Lavoie’s Astroinvestigators group along with Denis Picard and Peter Standaart. She did all of the website work for Alphee’s company, AIR software. After earning a Masters Degree, she began her practice as a behavioral  psychotherapist and owner of Horizons Counseling, serving as a board member of the Center for Progressive Therapies in Manchester (see below). Debbie’s Moon-Saturn trine shone at its best in her roles as a mother of two, a foster home parent for the Connecticut Humane Society and a supporter of Small Paws Rescue in East Hartford.

Friends and family gathered in a memorial celebration in Waterbury on June 11. If you’d like to make a contribution in her honor (as the ASC has done), send it to Small Paws Rescue, Inc., 3316 S. 72nd W. Ave., Tulsa, OK 74107.

As her obituary says, “Debbie will be sadly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.”

As Janet Booth wrote in a note to Jim Cowles, Director of the Center for Progressive Therapies:

“This is a big loss for the Society as she has been an instrumental member/officer/past president and has contributed her talents on our behalf for decades. She leaves a quite a gap for us to fill and we’ll miss her. She was very smart and had a great sense of humor!”

Jim then wrote about Debbie in a C4PT email and also in an email distributed by The Door Opener.

“Deb has been a creator and a grounding force as a C4PT Board Member, our Webmaster and at our .org meetings which she ran with positive good agenda. She was instrumental in helping to form some of our programs & services like the Positive Energy Music Series. She would give a bit of humor and would always come up with well thought suggestions. As our webmaster she has been awesome!

Anyone could see integrity from Debbie’s examples who would give a clearer & cleaner picture from what appeared a convoluted or difficult situation. She had a knack for picking the best elements & coming up with understandability.

She volunteered as a counselor for many years at C4PT offering her services freely.

All of our community enjoyed Deb’s intelligence in our discussions and all respected her views, even if not thoroughly agreeing with her. She managed to connect several of us together. We have had fun.”

The Center plans a gathering at their Manchester facility in Debbie’s honor, when they will plant a flowering pear tree in her memory.
