Current Season

ASC has hybrid in-person/online meetings for some of our events, in addition to streaming all of them on Zoom. When we meet in person, our hybrid lectures are at Pitkin Community Center, 30 Greenfield St., Wethersfield, CT. Our events in September, November, January, February and March will only be on Zoom.

If you are unfamiliar with terms used in the lecture descriptions, we recommend you attend our Pre-Lecture for an introduction. It is at 6:15 PM, prior to the 7:00 PM lecture, and is free for members, paid non-member attendees and guests.

Lectures

Members can attend lectures for free and will be sent the Zoom link automatically. Non-members can attend and will be emailed the link close to the event date, after paying the $10 non-member lecture fee using the registration button by the event listing. (NOTE: a link does not appear directly following payment and the deadline to register is midnight before the lecture date.) Most lectures are preceded by an introduction to the topic in our “Pre-Lecture” (taught by an ASC member) for no additional charge. To join ASC, see our Membership page. Members receive a discount on workshops and other benefits.

Workshops

As part of our educational efforts, we offer workshops with the opportunity to roll up your sleeves, delve into a topic and get hands-on experience. We may break into small discussion groups, giving us time to get to know one another, look at the participants’ charts and exchange ideas stimulated by the workshop presenter(s).

The fee for each workshop is $40 for ASC members, $50 for non-members. (Use the drop-down box to select the appropriate fee when registering.) Attendance information (and Zoom link, if applicable) will be emailed to participants prior to the event – a link does not appear directly following payment.

All about Squares! — Daniel Larkin

Join us for an in-depth examination of how to interpret square aspects in a chart. Waxing squares emphasize concretization and manifestation; waning squares emphasize disavowal and future forward release. We will look at how squares are not a one-way street. What does it mean when the Moon becomes more Neptunian by square? How does Mars become more Uranian by square? We will take a tour of the 12 square sign pairs as each pair brings out a different form of tension, showing how we approach building up and letting go. Daniel will distinguish between the separating and applying square, intensification and the relationship between orbs.

Get Ready for 2027!

Panelists: Julianne Johnson, Agneta Borstein, Janet Booth

— Moderator: Mary Ellen Norton

A panel of three of our favorite ASC professional astrologers kicks off the discussion, followed by Q & A. Zoom and in-person attendees can submit questions before and at the lecture and share their perspectives. Julianne Johnson looks at the 2026 winter solstice chart from a personal angle and a mundane perspective, which is a classic forecasting technique for the year ahead. Being a Leo, she shares her thoughts on Jupiter in Leo and its ingress into Virgo. Agneta Borstein examines the transit of the North Node/South Node axis through Aquarius/Leo (July 26, 2026 – March 26, 2028) and discusses the five eclipses of 2027. (Rarely do we have so many in one calendar year.) Janet Booth alerts us to highlighted “hot degrees” and busy sectors of the zodiac, based on lunations, planetary stations and more. You’ll want to note how your chart is affected by these. Then, as a group, we’ll look for positive uses of the potent energies of the outer planets, all now in different signs compared to a couple years ago AND in harmonious aspects with one another. How can they help us in our personal growth?

Making Saturn Work for You
— Laura Nalbandian

Saturn’s transits are often viewed as challenging, yet they offer a valuable framework for understanding how we mature across different areas of life. In this lecture, Laura will examine Saturn’s movement through the natal houses with an emphasis on how each transit sets the stage for the next phase of development. By looking at these cycles as interconnected rather than isolated, we can better appreciate how Saturn supports long-term coherence, resilience and a more grounded sense of personal responsibility.

What are Dispositors and How to Use Them— Laura Nalbandian

The ruling planet of the sign in which a planet is located is its dispositor, a core component of chart synthesis, offering essential context and depth in natal interpretation. In this workshop, Laura brings her grounded, practical approach to demonstrating how this technique functions as a structural backbone of astrological analysis. Building on the role of planetary dispositors, she will outline a clear method for identifying and working with house rulers, showing how they illuminate underlying themes, relational dynamics and the chart’s overall narrative coherence.

The Other Side of Neptune
— Linea Van Horn

Consider Neptune: Field of dreams or den of illusion? Holy Grail or snuff planet? From the sublime to the ridiculous, this planet defies description, evades the “real” world and reminds us that this earthly plane is but one small manifestation of true reality. There is much to love and much to hate about this giant gasbag intent on dissolving our attachment to the physical realm. For those with control issues, Neptune is an exercise in frustration. For those on a spiritual path, he shows the way. What qualities can we develop to make the best of this enigmatic planet? How will Neptune display his new role in Aries?

Learning from Western Traditions
— Joseph Crane

Strictly speaking, none of us can be ancient western or medieval astrologers; we are all here in the twenty-first century, learning and practicing astrology as modern people. However, there are features in the distant traditions that deserve to be considered seriously and possibly adapted to modern astrology. Author of Practical Guide to Traditional Astrology and Astrological Roots, Joseph will revisit rulership and planetary dispositors, house systems and house depictions, modes and qualities, lunar nodes, aspects and reception, and a topical approach to natal analysis.
